Representatives of an archeological dig taking place in the city of Trent in northern Italy invited Vertex11 to join as an observer. A personal relationship goes back many years between the head archaeologist on the dig and Ray Vazquez, President of Vertex11, so this collaboration was long in the making. When asked why the company would attend such an excavation, Ray Vazquez said, “We enjoy history and learning about the past to understand the future.”
After many days of digging, the Vertex11 team witnessed an unusual and unexpected discovery on the eleventh day. When this find was uncovered and analyzed, the head archaeologist hypothesized that judging by its appearance and markings, it might be an artifact from the Council of Trent convened in 1563. On it said, "poisson d'avril". After further examination, it was determined that this term represented the very first act of phishing ever recorded in human history. Interpreting the etched stones and paper scrolls, it was apparent that the discovery gave new insights into gullibility.
